The delegation members also met Honorable President, Republic of Mauritus at President House, who was very pleased to meet the delegation members and also hosted a High Tea. The delegation members also participated in a number seminars, talks and interaction sessions on the ageing issues concerning Senior Citizens of both the countries.

The delegation members also met Honorable Minister for Social Security, Govt. of Mauritius, Mrs. Dookhun and exchanged a number of views about the facilities and acitivities for the Senior Citizens of both the Countries.

June/July 2010
A delegation of 16 Members of Senior Citizens Council of Delhi led by its President, Mr.J R Gupta visited Mauritius from 27th June to 3rd July 2010 on the invitation from Senior Citizens Council, Mauritius by virtue of MOU already signed in the year of 2006 between both the Councils for promoting exchange of groups of views of elderly of both the countries.

Mr.M. Choonee, the former High Commissioner of Mauritius in India, now Minister for Art and Culture, Govt. of Mauritius also hosted a lunch in the honour of Delegation members.

The delegation members also paid a courtesy visit to honorable President, Vice President of Republic of Mauritius, High Commissioner of India in Mauritius and social security minister wherein exchange of views were expressed regarding development, planning and technology of both the countries. High Commissioner of India also informed the members about the items being imported by India from Mauritius and vice-versa. The Mauritius population is only 12 lakhs and majority is of Indian origin whose forefathers were migrated about 200 years back mostly from UP, Bihar and Maharashtra. In Mauritius, the monthly pension is given to the Senior Citizens after the age of 60. As soon as the age of the Senior Citizens increases, the monthly pension also increases. The monthly pension for Senior citizens aged between 60 to below 90 is Rs.2945, ages 90 and below 100 is Rs. 8760 and those aged 100 and above are given Rs.9944 whereas in Delhi Rs.1000 per month is paid to Senior Citizens and in other parts of India only Rs. 400. The currency of Mauritius is also high in comparison to India and 1 Indian rupee is equivalent to 70 Mauritian paise.

August 2009
A delegation of 32 members of Senior Citizen Council Of Delhi led by its President, Mr J.R. Gupta (who also is non-judicial member, Delhi State Government, State Council of Senior Citizen) visited Mauritius from 2nd August 2009 to 8th August 2009 on the invitation of their counterpart Senior Citizen Council of Mauritius, in terms of the Memorandum of Understanding
for the exchange of views of the elderly of both the Countries.

During the visit International seminars were also organised in which burning issues concerning Senior Citizens were exchanged and discussed on inter-generation relationship, security of property and life of Senior citizens, and ageing issues.

A visit to Mauritius by a delegation of 32 members of the
Senior Citizens Council of Delhi in August 2007

A good will delegation of 32 members of the Senior Citizens council of Delhi visited Mauritius from 29 July 2007 to 5 August 2007 under the leadership of its President, Shri J.R. Gupta. The members left a 02.45 pm and reached at 09.00 pm the same day, A very warm reception was accorded at the airport by Mrs Indranee Nath Varma, Chairperson, Senior Citizens Council, Mauritius and her team. After dinner, we were very adequately accommodated in the Recreation Centre at Pte aux Sables.

Next day, the delegation met with Mrs Sheilabai Bapoo, Hon'ble Minister, Social Security, NSSCW and RI. She welcomed us very heartily and talked on various social welfare schemes being implemented by her government for the welfare of senior citizens. Talks and poetries were recited to strengthen the cultural bonds in both the countries. Shri J.R. Gupta, President of Council thanked the minister and presented a momento. A dinner was hosted by the honble Minister.

On 31 July 2007, the delegation members paid a courtesy visit to the honble President of the Republic of Mauritius, His Excellency Mr. Anurood Jugnauth and Madam Her Excellency Mrs. K. Ranpadaruth. The President emphasized his wish to have more exchanges of people of both the countries and blessed the group with a group photo. Shri. J.R Gupta presented memento to the President and the ladies put scarf on Her Excellency Madam President.

On 02 August 2007, the delegation members met Dy Prime Minister Hon. Mr. R. Beebeejaun and he reiterated that the relationship amongst the two countries is perennial. A group photo was taken and Shri. J.R. Gupta fecilitated the Honble Dy Prime Minister.

The delegation members met the Indian High Commissioner Shri B Jai Shankaran for tea. All the mayors of towns of Mauritius arranged cultural programmes and hosted lunch and dinner in the honor of delegation members. The members were accorded warm welcome and hosted lunch and dinners at different places during the entire period of stay in Mauritius and arranged cultural progrmmes everywhere. The members were received with great respect, affection and warmth by the people of Indian origin living in Mauritius. Gifts and mementos were presented from both sides.

During the stay, delegation members enjoyed valuable site seeing programmes like Apravasi Ghat Talab, Rabindranath Tagore Institute Cultural Centre, Old Sugar Maund, Botanical Garden Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre, Candon Water front, Crater Black River Gorges, Nation history Museum, Seven Coloured Earth, and Blue Submarine 30 meters under sea. A warm reception was also accorded by Sh Rajender Arun, Chairman of Ramayana Centre, Mauritius and hosted a very sweaty home made dinner. The members also donated as sum of 11,000/- to Ramayana Centre. We left Mauritius at 03.24 am and returned very happily to India with sweet memories on 05 August 2007 at 11.45 am.

This warm welcome everywhere in Mauritius could only be possible through the untiring and personal efforts of Shri. J.R. Gupta, Our President, which can not be forgetten till our life. The delegation members thanked him and requested to make such tours in India and abroad in future also.
